Kuala Lumpur, Nov 11 – MCA central committee member Datuk Lau Choon Hann reminded Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri, Minister of Rural and Regional Development not to turn just anything into a racial issue as the issue regarding vaping was in relation to the public health and has nothing to do with race.

He said Ismail was against the Health Ministry’s move to confine the sale of vaping to pharmacies for fear of affecting the income of Malay traders, this was logically unacceptable.

“A responsible government must take the interests of the people as a priority, nothing is more important than the health of the people; moreover, if we go according to the logic of Ismail Sabri, in future should there appear a new type of drugs in the market, will he once again go against the government’s prohibition of the selling of the drugs base on the same reason?

“Furthermore, this is the responsibility of the Health Ministry and Health Ministry has its own mechanism of verification, Ismail Sabri who is in charge of Rural and Regional Development should not lend a hand on Health Ministry’s duty, he should even stop harping on the illogical speech containing incitement to racial sentiments.

Lau Choon Hann also urged the government to review the existing regulation as the products and new technology and even the technique of crime is changing rapidly, many existing regulations were already outdated.

“Anyhow, the vendors or the users of vaping can be any race and therefore, the government should take into consideration the interest of all the people and not a particular race in the formulating or amending of the law.”
