Relocation of SJKC Kheng Chee from other state eases the problem of limited places, says Wee Ka Siong

Puchong, Nov 11 – Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong said SJKC Kheng Chee which had successfully relocated from other state had helped to ease the problem of serious shortage of places in Chinese primary schools in Puchong area.

He said Puchong with huge Chinese population had a short fall of 700 places in Chinese primary schools, the SJKC Kheng Chee which had relocated to Puchong from Bukit Dinding, Pahang plus the all new SJKC Bukit Serdang would help to provide ample places for the new students.

“Parents in Puchong no longer have to wake up early to send their children to SJKC situated more than 10km away.”

Wee Ka Siong said this when officially launched the SJKC Kheng Chee, Puchong today.

Also present were SJKC Kheng Chee Puchong board of governors chairman Datuk Wong Hock Aun, deputy chairman Chin Ah Yim, vice-chairman Dato’ Neoh Heng Seng, Lu Guey Seng, treasurer Dato’ Lee Kwai Fong, headmistress Chong Ah Lin and president of the United Chinese School Board of Managers, Pahang Lim Chin Chee etc.

Parties of both political divide should support Chinese schools

In the speech, Wee Ka Siong also touched on the construction project history of SJKC Kheng Chee and stressed that parties of both political divide should not undermine each other when facing with Chinese education issue, instead they should work with each other to contribute to Chinese education.

“The original construction cost of SJKC Kheng Chee was RM4.5 million, however due to the two suspension orders issued by the state government, the cost had increased to RM6 million.”

Meanwhile Chong Ah Lin said there were only 186 students when the school opened last year, but now the number of students had increased to 578, and was expected to increase to 900 next year.

“The school has opened for 20 months, the facilities are gradually adding in, but we still don’t have the science classroom and also need to expand the canteen as well.”

Organize fund raising dinner on Nov 15

According to Wong Hock Aun, SJKC Kheng Chee would organize a fund raising dinner on Nov 15 with the aim of raising RM2 million to pay the contractors, Selangor state government and for the expansion of school canteen.

He said the building cost of the school was RM6 million, the central government had allocated RM4.9 million, state government contributed RM50,000 and the school still owed the contractors RM360,000.

“Although it is a government school, the school has yet to receive allocation for water and electricity bills from the government; we hope the Education Ministry would solve this problem.”

He said the target of the fund raising dinner was RM2 million, apart from paying debts, the rest would be used to expand the school canteen.
