Dong Zong and Jiao Zong lambast Yap Sin Tian for splitting Chinese educationists

Kuala Lumpur, Nov 11 – United Chinese School Committees’ Association (Dong Zong), United Chinese Schools Teachers’ Association (Jiao Zong) and the Merdeka University Bhd said the formation of the Federation of Safeguarding Chinese Education of Malaysia was an inappropriate and improper move attempted to split the Chinese educationists.

The three organizations said in a statement issued today that a splinter group led by former Dong Zong president Yap Sin Tian and deputy president Chow Siew Hon had been fabricating ghastly lies which were apparently right but actually wrong to deceive and mislead Chinese community and splitting the Chinese educationists owing to their unwillingness to leave their original post in Dong Zong as well as to maintain their own interests.

“Now they play the new trick of forming the Federation of Safeguarding Chinese Education of Malaysia, we opine that such an inappropriate and improper action will only cause the Chinese education to split further and deliberately undermine the unity of Chinese community,” the statement added.

It said over the few decades national cultural and educational organizations such as Dong Zong, Jiao Zong, the Merdeka University Bhd, United Chinese School Alumni Association of Malaysia (UCSAAM), Nanyang University Alumni Association of Malaysia as well as the Federation of Alumni Associations of Taiwan Universities, Malaysia had been in different fields and positions safeguarding the survival and development of the Chinese education in the country.

The three organisations were responding to Yap Sin Tian’s statement on Nov 7, in which he had announced the formation of the Federation of Safeguarding Chinese Education of Malaysia, they severely condemned such action taken by Yap.

Earlier, Yap Sin Tian had said that “While seeking the court’s verdict to announce the meeting called by the Dong Zong ‘separatists’ and the central committee null and void, the federation was formed to unite the strength of the grassroots to continue upholding the Chinese education.”

The three organisations severely condemned Yap Sin Tian for fabricating ghastly lies which were apparently right but actually wrong, and sent press release to the media accusing the new Dong Zong leadership for “changing the party’s line and policy in allowing SM Chong Hwa Kuantan to sit for Unified Examination without any precondition, willing to amend the curriculum of the Chinese independent high school and to reduce its academic standard as the condition for the government to recognize the Unified Examination Certificate and also ready to accept the many policies and measures which are unfavorable to Chinese education under the Education Blueprint 2013-2015.”

“All these allegations are falsehood and fabricated which are slandering; the utterances of Yap Sin Tian not only are not true, but also have constituted a serious malicious slander, the three organisations reserved the right to take legal action against him.”

“We also urged the Chinese community to be wary of the Federation of Safeguarding Chinese Education of Malaysia formed by Yap Sin Tian and Chow Siew Hon.”
