(Sarawak, Kuching 8 Nov) Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) president Datuk Sim Kui Hian has used the meeting between Chinese and Taiwanese leaders as analogy to Sarawak Chinese community and SUPP’s movement. He stresses that if the party gives in by allocating its state seats to others, this is not a move to unite Chinese in Sarawak!

“Both China and Taiwan are unwilling to let a third party to intervene causing the scenario of split. When touching on unity among the Chinese, why is that people always requesting SUPP to allocate its state seats to others. When harping on the issue, how do we unite the Chinese community?”

He is frank to say that in the past the political trend is Sarawak is divide and rule. He does not wish to see such trend to continue to divide the Chinese and exploits their rights.

Dr Sim, when attending the herb exhibition organised by the Federation of Sarawak Chinese Physician Association and Federation of Sarawak Traditional Physicians and Supplementary Medicine yesterday, said the definition of unity is not to divide but to remain together.

“When we touch on unity, it is like China and Taiwan. We Chinese no longer want to be ‘manipulated’ by others, exploiting our rights. Verbally stressing on unity but continue to divide the Chinese. This is a loss to the Chinese community.”

Defending Chinese’ rights together

He reiterates that for many years, he has been hoping that the Chinese in Sarawak are able to defend the rights of Chinese together in the spirit of unity. This has been his hope for many years and not only now.

At the same time, Dr Sim says the meeting between Xi Jinping and Ma Ying Jeou in Singapore has created history. Both are separated for years but the handshake between the two leaders has touched on the years of expectation. This means the Chinese in China and Taiwan would enjoy better future.

“As the Malaysian Chinese, I hope to learn from them.”
