(Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya 9 Sep, 2015) Two Malay non-organisations have come forward to plan for precautionary measures to protect Chinese in affected area.

Plainclothes surveillance team

These two Malay non-governmental organisations are Selangor People’s Welfare and Develop Group (Pro-Rakyat) and OTAI Reformasi.

They would be mobilising 2,500 men in plainclothes surveillance patrolling in Petaling Street and Bukit Bintang area on 16 September to ensure no incident of racial clash and protect the safety of Chinese shops.

At a press conference, “OTAI Reformasi” secretary Abdul Razak says the group would be mobilising 500 of its members to be plainclothes surveillance members in Petaling Street on 16 September to take care of security.

Worry the police may be unable to maintain public order

He says the group is worried whether police would be capable of maintaining public order on that day.

If the red shirts violate regulations or cause criminal problems during 916 rally, they do not rule out the possibility of arresting them via citizen’s arrest.

“We hope our Chinese friends in Petaling Street believe us that we are capable of protecting them. This is the promise we give them.”

In addition, Abdul Razak says the group has also contacted business organisations in Petaling Street to plan for surveillance duty.

Khairul Anuar Osman, chairman of ProRAKYAT says he would arrange for 2,000 members to join members of OTAI Reformasi on 16 September as surveillance members for public safety.

Although the group has lodged a police report against the 916 Maruah Melayu Rally on 5 September, deputy IGP Nor Rashid has also said the police would not allow such rally, he believes the rally would go on.

He stresses that the group would be with other Malay non-governmental organisations to ensure racial problems would not take place on that day.
