KUALA LUMPUR – Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong revealed that he brought up the issue of disallowing SPM students to use forecast results for admission into private universities and colleges in the cabinet meeting on Wednesday. The cabinet agreed to look into the issue while the Education Ministry agreed to review the decision.
Wee said, when he raised the issue in the meeting, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib and other ministers shared their opinions which drew the attention of Second Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh who said the Education Ministry will review the decision.
Wee Ka Siong spoke to the media after handing over the cheques to Negeri Sembilan pig farmers.
He hopes the Education Minister will lift the ban after the review.
He disagreed with the ban and said, “if you said the system that has been used for 30 years had never existed, then why did former education directors and senior education directors including senior officials from local academic circle who joined the private higher learning institutions have been using this method for student admission?”
He pointed that the senior officers who later join private education institutions have allowed using forecast results to gain admission in both places, which proved that it has been the common practice for many years.
