Kuala Lumpur, Nov 6 – DAP member of Parliament for Petaling Jaya Utara Tony Pua said, the Budget 2015 failed to reflect the real government expenditure and Budget deficit, as many government expenses were not included in the Budget.
He told a press conference at the Parliament building lobby that many government projects did not list on the Budget 2015 like the MRT and construction of police station project, but the government insisted that the Budget deficit had been reduced to the current 3 per cent from 4.8 per cent in the previous year, and would strike a balance budget in 2020.
“All these projects were being taken out from the Budget to mask the real deficit.”
“Therefore, those figures are not the real deficit figure.”
He regretted that deputy Finance Minister Datuk Ahmad Maslan did not respond to his question in the Dewan Rakyat, the deputy minister merely stated that the figures prepared by the officers were true figures.
On the other issue, Tony Pua said Pakatan Rakyat (PR) hoped that after the redelineation of constituencies, the difference in the number of voters among the constituencies would not exceed 50 per cent, this was also PR’s principle.
He said PR would support the increase in number of parliamentary seats under the proposed redelineation exercise if Election Commission (EC) followed the principle.
“PR hopes that after the redelineation exercise, the situation where a parliamentary constituency has 225,000 voters while another has got 120,000 will not happen again.”
Earlier, EC chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz confirmed that it was expected to gazette the notice for the redelineation exercise at the end of this year to ensure that voters were served easily by their elected representatives. A constituency with a large number of voters, more than 100,000, has to be divided into two, for example, so that there are reasonable numbers of voters in both.
