Guang Ming Daily, October 8th 2014
(Penang, 7/10) Gerakan Youth internal conflict has spread! According to Guang Ming Daily, the political storm will be settled after the Tuesday night meeting of the Gerakan Youth CWC. If the negotiation failed, the youth representatives will propose a motion of no confidence against Tan Keng Liang as the National Youth Chief of Gerakan in the Gerakan National Youth EGM on the 17th of October 2014.
According to a report, impending action of tabling a motion of no confidence was sparked off after 8 CWC members of Gerakan Youth tendered and refused to withdraw their letters of resignation. They expressed that they could not work with Tan Keng Liang or Tan himself could not give the reason for not fulfilling the promises that he had committed.
Former supporters of Tan Keng Liang also approved the “Drop Tan Keng Liang” campaign.
Last week the President of Gerakan, Dato Mah Siew Keong urged the Youth wing to resolve the internal conflict amicably through internal means but the affected CWC members were not willing to do so. According to them they had already given him a 3 month grace period since June this year to prove his leadership capabilities and fulfilled the promises. Unfortunately Tan Keng Liang still acted on his own whims like a lone ranger.
According to sources, some CWC members from his home state Kedah were also not happy with Tan Keng Liang. Besides that the Johor Gerakan Youth wing who supported Tan in the last Gerakan National Youth Chief election also responded to the campaign of “Drop Tan Keng Liang”. One of the CWC elected member who tendered the letter of resignation was from Johor.
Similarly the Perak youth Wing who supported Tan Keng Liang strongly in the last Gerakan Youth Chief election also voiced their support of “Drop Tan Keng Liang” campaign. Even the political and press secretary of Mah Siew Keong, Ivan also tendered his resignation from all prominent posts in the Gerakan National Youth wing.
The CWC members were collecting signatures for support from all states.
According to sources, at present the CWC members had already secretly getting ready at all state branches. Once the negotiation on Tuesday night fails, the next day they will collect signatures from all the state representatives to garner more support to topple Tan Keng Liang.
If the Gerakan Youth EGM is on next week with more than half of the representatives supporting the motion of no confidence on the acting Youth Chief, then the speaker of the day must abide to the normal procedure to let the representatives to decide the motion on the vote.
According to a source, in the last Gerakan National Youth Chief election Tan Keng Liang won by only 50 votes. This was contributed to the political scenario at that time when the members voted according to the faction alienated to Mah Siew Keong or Teng Chang Yeow.
Today Mah Siew Keong and Teng Chang Yeow are at good terms and Tan Keng Liang has lost the blessing from Mah Siew Keong’s faction. Can he overcome this political crisis which depends on how he uses his wisdom to solve it. According to sources, if Tan Keng Liang lost the majority support of the Youth Wing from Selangor, Johor and Perak, very likely he will be forced to step down for good.
