Just when I was happy to hear the voices of the 25 former prominent officials, there comes the seemingly seditious and nitpicking theory of Chinese robbing power.
It is not hard to understand the mindset displayed by these minority extremists has catered to a certain market that differ in taste. There is no need to tell them about the virtue and loyalty of the Chinese. On top of it, there is no need to emphasize to them that it is hard work that has enabled the Chinese to achieve what they have today. How can they not know these principles? Nevertheless, they are still adamant in coming out with theories that have values to them. One can believe that one of the factors of their actions is that their heroic image among their race would be improved. Therefore, even if their actions and words will cause public outrage, it would not stop them from proceeding.
Naturally, we can ignore the existence of this group of opportunists. Furthermore, even the leader of this country has urged people to not bother about these extreme commentaries. On the other hand, he forgot the best method to deal with these extremists is not to turn a blind eye but law enforcement. Only in doing so, an effective interception can take place.
This is not a difficult principle to understand. One can take appropriate actions with some rational thinking and a little courage in politics. Nonetheless, the problems are complicated in this magical Malaysia. Be it the theory of Chinese robbing power or those who lost their mind to the extent that they can come out with the preposterous ideas such as burning the bibles, it is very rare that the government would strictly punish or prosecute these people.
How should the people feel?
For instance, if the teachers and parents witness a bad student bullying the other kids, they should not just pull them away and not punish the one at fault. By doing so, not only the most fundamental education would be ignored but the principle of righteousness and the concept of right or wrong would be overlooked too.
It is even harder now to raise the ideology of moderation that the government has been repeatedly emphasized. Moderation requires you to prove to the world that you are in sync with the civilized society, that you will tackle the dark side and inequality, that you are not afraid of any political challenge because you are determined to guide the people to step forward and that you understand that the country has no room for extremists who are overly self-abased and lacking of self-esteem.
Regretfully, the Malaysian government has no response for the open letter by the 25 former prominent officials. It is believed that the theory of Chinese robbing power would also not be enough to get a reaction from them. This peculiar silence would not lead this government to succeed in politics. What should the people feel when the government has degraded into a position where it is speechless and ignorant to everything?
Surely, the extremists are abominable. However, we equally despise the leaders who think that the problems could be solved by isolating themselves.
