Shah Alam – Selangor state executive councilor meeting today did not cancel the Oktoberfest scheduled to be held at One Utama Shopping Centre on Friday, but the organizer have to apply for permit from the local authority and comply with the five conditions including holding the event indoors.

Shift to indoor car park

In other words, the final big scale celebration of the Oktoberfest which was originally scheduled to be held from October 10 to 12 at One Utama Shopping Centre open air car park will have to change venue. According to reliable sources, the finale may be shifted to indoor car park at 4th floor of the shopping complex.

The Oktoberfest organised by Carlsberg was held in several cities in the country starting from September 24 to mid-October. This is an annual event but this year controversy arose because of the gigantic billboard installed in Shah Alam.

Selangor state local government committee chairman, Ean Yong Hian Wah, in a statement this afternoon, denied issuing a permit to any party in organising the Oktoberfest 2014.

He said the issuance of permit for such event is under the jurisdiction of local authorities. The organisers may apply to local authorities and approval is subject to five conditions.

He said the application for a temporary entertainment permit was a normal process and the approval conditions set by the police and Customs were not new as well.

Ean Yong Hian Wah said as he understood the application was rejected due to insufficient information.

Must get approval from Petaling Jaya city council

“The organisers have to resubmit the application to Petaling Jaya city council.”

“The conditions imposed by the local authorities are the same as in the years before and there are no new additional conditions.

“So, if the organisers comply with the same conditions, there is no reason why the permit will not be given,” he said.

He also confirmed that the Oktoberfest billboard in Shah Alam had been removed as it was not approved by the local authority. Shah Alam city council will take appropriate action against the company involved.

Advertising company suspended for three months for not applying for permit

Meanwhile, Shah Alam Mayor Datuk Mohd Jaafar Mohd Atan said the installation of the Oktoberfest billboard was done without the approval of Shah Alam city council.

The billboard installed was not aware by Shah Alam city council and action has been taken against the advertising company, i.e. to suspend the company for three months from applying for other permits.

Azmin: Received report from two city councils

Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali said this morning he had received report from Shah Alam city council and Petaling Jaya city council, he will reveal the details to the media after the state exco meeting.

However, he did not meet the press after the meeting and went off to attend another function.

The reporters were told that the state exco members Ean Yong Hian Wah and Elizabeth Wong will issue statement on the issue.
