Putrajaya – Deputy Prime Minister and UMNO Deputy President Tan Sri Muhyiddin pointed out that UMNO requires new intelligence to manage the changes in the social development, so as to enable UMNO to continue ruling the nation.
He said that the people’s thought process and voters’ needs have changed following the change in the social development and enrichment of information technology. There is a vast difference from the past 10 and 20 years ago.
He reminded the UMNO members that the past ‘relaxing era’ is over. Currently, it is the ‘toughest era’, the grass-root leaders have to double their effort to gain the supports of the voters.
Muhyiddin was speaking and pointed these out at the opening of the Putrajaya UMNO Division representatives meeting.
Those who attended include UMNO General Secretary and Putrajaya UMNO Division Chairman Tengku Adnan.
Muhyiddin also pointed out that UMNO needs to continue controlling the nation’s administrative mandate, and only then it is able to continue the protection of the Malays and other races’ rights, to improve the Malays’ educational, social and economic status.
He emphasized that although BN has won the mandate in the previous 13th general election and won 133 Parliamentary seats, the votes secured has dropped to 48%, and this is a fact that UMNO just cannot overlook.
“All these while, Johor has been a UMNO stronghold but now it is being shaken. Moreover, BN also lost the mandate in Selangor.”
“UMNO must realize the changes in the society’s ‘ecosystem’, so as to better understand voters’ thought process and needs.”
He mentioned that the UMNO leaders must also realized that in the better developed areas, the voters’ needs are higher too.
