KUALA LUMPUR – MCA deputy president Datuk Wee Ka Siong said issue of banning SPM students to use forecast results for admission into private education institutions has been brought to the attention of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib and Second Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh agreed to review this decision.

Wee Ka Siong said if the practice that has been in use for 31 years is no longer valid, why did higher learning institutions allow students to use their forecast results to gain admission?

“My question is, why did the senior education officer or director retired from the Education Ministry who later become the private education institutions’ principle or administrator would allow SPM forecast results to enter their institutions? This is a clear evidence of forecast results being widely accepted.”

Wee Ka Siong is also the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department. He spoke to the media after handing over cheques to pig farmers.

“It will cause brain drain to Malaysia if parents choose to send their children to Australia or the United Kingdom for Pre-U or A-level courses.” He said there are about 30,000 top scoring students in Malaysia.

He said, if new rule is implemented, the survival of private education institutions is in question after the possible loss of 30,000 prospective students.
