(Kuala Lumpur 22 Apr) Malaysia-China Chamber of Commerce Datuk Boon Hon Liong says the chamber would be leading delegations comprising Malay Businessmen and Industrialist Association of Malaysia (PERDASAMA) and Persatuan Pengusaha Restoran India Malaysia (PRIMAS) to attend the China Import and Export Fair (Canton Fair).

Bong said while the Chinese Malaysians are familiar with Canton Fair as they have started participating more than 10 years ago, many Chinese Malaysian businessmen would have their channel to participate. However, Indians and Malays relatively have lesser exposure. This is the first time the three parties are working together to assist local Malays and Indians to create business opportunities in China.

Liu Jun Guang, vice president of Malaysia-China Chamber of Commerce cum the pro-tem committee of the delegation said the visit to the fair is from 29 Apr to 3 May. About 91 people are joining the delegation. The delegation comprises 61 Malay businessmen and members of the entrepreneur association, 16 from PRIMAS and the rest are from the chamber.

Naim: eye opener

Datuk Naim Mohamad, executive chairman of Perdasama said Canton Fair would be an opener to the members. Apart from businessmen in China, there would be many businessmen from overseas participating in the fair.

Asked about his views on China’s economy slowing down, he says despite China’s economy is slowing down, China still enjoys economic growth at 6.5% to 7%. Many countries in the world are experiencing negative growth. The volume is huge in China. China also has strong purchasing power.

He points out that to have trade collaboration with Chinese business, the other party would be requiring certain criteria of supply like supply volume of a container. Local businessmen can pool their strength together meet the supply volume.

Present at the press conference included secretary of the chamber Lu Guo Xiang, treasurer Datuk Huang Xi Qi, council member Zhang Lian Xing, Bao Jiu Xing, Prisma executive secretary Rupiah and Perdasama council member Datuk Mohamad Fauzi.
