Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng hopes the police can take action based on video clip on Youtube against Permatang Pauh Umno division Chief Mohd Zaidi Said’s seditious remarks made in Umno general assembly.

He also urges MCA and Gerakan to answer whether Mohd Zaidi’s explanation of “only a small group” of Chinese in Penang are involved in illegal business and whether MCA and Gerakan would continue to work with Penang Umno in future.

Mohd Zaidi has denied his statement on “Penang Chinese rely on illegal business to be rich” in Umno general assembly, stressing that he was only talking about a small group of Chinese. He also said Chinese media has misinterpreted his remarks. At the same time, he counter-challenged Lim to resign if he could show proof the venues of those illegal businesses.

Mohd Zaidi afraid to own up

Lim played the video clip of Zaidi’s speech at his press conference today to show that Zaidi is not only lying but a coward afraid to own up. He refused to reply to media on resigning even if Zaidi managed to identify venues of illegal businesses.

“kekuatan ekonomi org Cina kadang kadang dijana melalui kegiatan-kegiatan haram, melalui kejudian (The economic status of Chinese is sometimes originated from illegal businesses or gambling); this is clear that he is targeting at Chinese and not ‘a small group of Chinese’. Our Bahasa Malaysia is not that bad.”

“Besides this, he says ‘kalau kita bersungguh-sunguh untuk membanteras kegiatan sumber ekonomi haram ini, saya berasa Cina di Pulau Pinangakan takut’ (if we are serious in wiping out those illegal businesses, I feel that Chinese in Penang are afraid). This shows Zaidi is making another serious and baseless allegation against Chinese.”

Lim said Zaidi also refers Indians as Keling to insult the Indians.

“If he feels he is at fault, he should retract those remarks and apologize.”

Penang Chinese Assembly Hall: Zaidi tarnishes friendship with all races by hurting Chinese with baseless accusation

Sin Chew Daily, Dec 3, 2014

(Penang 2 December) Penang Chinese Chamber of Commerce regrets statement made by Penang delegate Mohd Zaidi in Umno general assembly accusing the economic strength of some of Chinese in Penang originated from engaging in illegal businesses.

Datuk Seri Choot Ewe Seng, president of the Penang Chinese Chamber of Commerce, in a statement, said the chamber is of the view that Mohd Zaidi should be responsible of his remarks. He should not be making baseless accusation without any proof.

He said Mohd Zaidi’s baseless accusation has hurt the feelings and dignity of Chinese in Penang. At the same time it has tarnished the good relations of all races in Penang.

“We must reiterate that the Chinese has made huge contribution to the economic development of the country since independence. The Chinese has contributed in unstable situations without any grudges to develop the nation’s economy. The contribution is solid.”

“We are elated that each Prime Minister has repeatedly complimented contribution of Chinese in economic sector. Historical documents and papers have also further proven the great success and contribution of Chinese to economic and trade sectors in the country.”

The chamber again urges politicians to set good example to have quality speech. They should be speaking to convince others but not to utter baseless, seditious remarks which harm the peace of the country.

Lim Kit Siang: Umno delegate utters seditious remarks; would police be waiting for Home Ministry’s approval for investigation?
Sin Chew Daily, Dec 3, 2014

(Kuala Lumpur 2 December) DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang questions Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister, Home Minister and all Umno ministers whether they would work with police to investigate two Umno delegates who utter seditious and hatred remarks at the Umno assembly last week?

In his statement, he also questions whether police would need to wait for Home Minister Ahmad Zahid’s “green light” to proceed with investigation into various police reports lodged against two Umno delegates – Mohd Zaidi (Penang) and Mashitah (Kedah) for inciting hatred in Umno assembly?

Judging from Ahmad Zahid’s “war mongering” remarks made at the Umno assembly, Lim said Ahmad Zahid seemed to have usurped the power of police, Attorney-General and even judges to decide whether one has flouted sedition laws.

“Mohd Zaidi clarifies yesterday that his statement was misinterpreted. He says he does not mean all Chinese rely on illegal business to become wealthy.

This must be the funniest excuse in the political history of Malaysia. Most absurd thing is, this Penang Umno leader has only realized he was ‘misinterpreted’ three days later after the fiasco.

“Ahmad Zahid in fact has the obligation to be the eye witness to assist police investigation into Mohd Zaidi’s racist, irresponsible, provocative remarks which cause racial hatred, tension and conflict in front of the entire Umno leadership, Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister and the entire Cabinet.”

“Similar consideration should be taken on whether police should investigate Mashitah who made baseless and provocative accusation claiming that a Chinese in Kedah is burning Quran page by page in prayers while Kedah Menteri Besar has explained earlier that the incident involved a mentally insane Malay man who was tearing Quran?”
