When there were news about by-election in Kajang, UMNO immediately intended to assign UMNO candidate instead of MCA to contest. But when UMNO found out later that the chance of winning is not possible, hence putting forward a reason of no intention to contest Anwar who is abusing the process of democracy; and pass the constituency back to MCA.

In fact, MCA is fully aware that this is a sure lose contest, but they have no way out. For the reputation of the party, they have no choice but to move forward without fear; even knowing a possible losing result.

MCA suffered a bitter and horrible defeat in the 505 General Election. There were mainly two reasons for their defeat, one was because of their leader’s personal integrity is being questioned, this is not entirely his fault; those who supported him and voted him to the helm should bear the heavier responsibility. Those 901 central delegates who supported him not only damaged the party, they have also sent MCA to the doom. Chinese more or less knew why these delegates have voted an individual whom the Chinese community has rejected to be the party leader.

The other reason was that the Chinese was very eager to change the status quo. Most Chinese wanted a 2-party system, wanting to change the government to see if that can brings a better outcome. Hence, most of the Chinese votes went to PR candidates. They did not bother who were the candidates, just went ahead to vote for PR. These two main reasons caused the humiliating defeat to the MCA.

Confident with 2-party system

After the 505 General Election, rumor was that the BN government wanted to punish the Chinese, to take revenge on Chinese; some Chinese Community leaders and the critics also mentioned that the Chinese should feel sorry and repent for their voting inclination during the 505 General Election.

However, from the public commentary and the grass-root feedbacks, the Chinese are not feeling sorry for their voting pattern; they are only feeling sorry for the outcome in the form of winning votes but losing seats. This outcome strengthens their will to build a 2-party system and to change the government for a possible better future.

In fact, Chinese do not necessary like Anwar, how could they forget or forgive his attitude and behavior in oppressing Chinese education when he was still with UMNO? He promoted Islamic way of lives, advocating in bringing Islamic values into the government administration systems, instructed higher education students to study Islamic Civilization irrespective of their original religion beliefs. All these incidents were deeply planted in the Chinese community, but because of the stronger needs to have a 2-party system the Chinese are still inclining to vote for PR candidate; Anwar getting the Chinese votes has lots to thank to the urgent need of a 2-party system.
