Malacca, June 5 – MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong hoped Malaysian Buddhist Association would join in the efforts of MCA to oppose PAS and safeguarding Constitution, and also to influence other non-Islamic organisations in opposing the hudud.

He pointed out that the private member’s Bill on Shariah law would cast an impact on the Federal Constitution and open up the floodgate for the implementation of hudud, thus subverting the national secular system and at the same time causing a lot of uncertainty and instability in the country which would sacrifice the country’s future and development.

“It is said that ‘A single spark can start a prairie fire’, therefore all the cracks that would allow the Shariah criminal law and theocratic to set its footing should be blocked comprehensively.

“MCA is working hand in hand with other BN component parties to do their best in reversing the situation within BN so that Umno can follow the BN spirit and adhere to the pluralistic and secular system,” he added.

He said MCA would also hold roadshows in all states, inviting non-governmental organisations and Chinese societies to oppose the tabling of hudud Bill.

Wee Ka Siong is also Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department; he said this during the closing ceremony of the 19th Malaysian Buddhist Association annual general meeting. His speech was being read out by his political secretary Liu Ya Qiang. Liu also announced the contribution of RM10,000 to Malaysian Buddhist Association on behalf of Wee Ka Siong.
