“Use your vote to say no to hudud law,” urges 37 Chinese organisations in Kuala Kangsar

Kuala Kangsar, June 2 – Thirty-seven Chinese societies in Kuala Kangsar signed and issued an open letter expressing disappointment over the tabling of hudud Bill in Parliament by PAS with the consent of Umno.

They also urged all Chinese electorates in Kuala Kangsar to make the right decision which will bring the greatest benefits to the Chinese community in order to show Chinese unity and rationality.

The open letter pointed out that PAS has blatantly broken the consensus of the nation building by repeatedly tabling the hudud Bill, even the Minister of Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Azalina Othman and Deputy Works Minister Datuk Rosnah Abdul Rashid Shirlin from Umno has also openly colluded with PAS which challenges the bottom line of Chinese community.

The letter also said all the local Chinese societies strongly condemned and disapproved the move, and also to remind Prime Minister Datuk Sri Najib once again that Malaysians hope that the social contract will be strictly adhered to so that the country continues to take the diversity course, enabling the people of multi-ethnicity to live and work in peace.

Open letter to submit to Najib

The open letter has urged the Chinese community in Kuala Kangsar to understand that each of their votes will represent the stand and view point of the Chinese community on the hudud law, hence there should be no compromise or give in. It also urged the Chinese community not to vote for PAS which has betrayed the consensus of the nation building.

In addition, the open letter has also agreed that the wife of the late Datuk Wan Mohammad Khairil, former Member of Parliament for Kuala Kangsar, Datin Mastura to be the candidate of the Kuala Kangsar by-election so that she can continue in safeguarding the moderation path. The Chinese societies will also show their support to MCA by voting for Mastura.

On this, Kuala Kangsar MCA divisional chairman Huang Jian Sheng told the session attended by Kuala Kangsar MCA and Chinese community in Kuala Kangsar today that the open letter was the consensus reached during the meeting held by the local Chinese organisations a few days ago. The collected views are listed on the open letter to be submitted to the highest authority of the Barisan Nasional.

He said four copies of the open letter would be sending to Najib and Menteri Besar of Perak Datuk Seri Zambry respectively, while the other two would be kept by Perak MCA and Kuala Kangsar Chinese Assembly Hall.

Zambry who was invited to attend the exchange session has received the open letter from MCA.

Holds closed-door meeting

“As I understand, Prime Minister will be coming to Kuala Kangsar on June 10, Kuala Kangsar Chinese Assembly Hall will represent the local Chinese organisations to submit the open letter to PM at a coffee shop,” he said.

Zambry told reporters later that the open letter not only is the undertaking of the Chinese community to the BN candidate, but also proved that the moderate path advocated by the late MP has played a big role in the Chinese community.

Meanwhile, prior to the exchange session, MCA Perak liaison chairman Dato’ Dr. Mah Hang Soon has also held a closed-door meeting with MCA Perak state leaders. Also present were Wanita MCA chief Heng Seai Kie, MCA Perak liaison committee deputy-chairman Datuk Ooi Jing Ting, vice-chairman Datuk Ho Cheong Sing, Umno Kuala Kangsar acting divisional chief Mohamad Kamil Shafie and Kuala Kangsar Chinese Assembly Hall president Dato’ Wong Seng Chin etc.
