MCA not invited for Wednesday briefing on hudud, says Liow Tiong Lai

Sungai Besar, June 5 – Although Umno information chief Tan Sri Annuar Musa has announced yesterday that Umno will hold a briefing on PAS’ Private Member’s Bill on Shariah court amendments for Barisan Nasional component party leaders on Wednesday (June 8) to explain to all BN component parties regarding the Bill tabled by PAS president Datuk Seri hadi Awang, MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said he did not receive Umno’s invitation until now.
Liow Tiong Lai said if invited MCA would definitely send its representatives to attend the briefing.
“We have yet to receive the invitation, but we will definitely send our representatives to make clear our stand, MCA will definitely stand up to the hudud issue.”
“We want to make sure that the view of the Chinese community be effectively passed on; they have of course hoped that the issue could be settled through BN consensus.”
Liow Tiong Lai who is also Transport Minister told reporters after visiting Chinese electorates at Nam Tian temple here with BN candidate for Sungai Besar Budiman Mohd Zohdi this afternoon.
He said MCA also hoped that all BN component parties will stand together to oppose to the “355 Act” as the private member’s Bill tabled by Hadi Awang is against the country’s Constitution.
Liow Tiong Lai also said MCA would not shirk its responsibility even facing with the election campaign of the Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar parliamentary by-election; it would put in efforts to try to explain to Chinese societies in the two parliamentary on the hudud issue.
Umno information chief Annuar Musa announced yesterday that Umno would hold briefing on hudud law on next Wednesday 10.00am at Umno Headquarters in PWTC.
