First phase of Bandar Malaysia will be completed in five years with total development cost expected to reach RM200 billion

Kuala Lumpur, June 16 – Iskandar Waterfront Holdings (IWH) executive vice-chairman Tan Sri Lim Kang Hoo said the whole project of Bandar Malaysia is expected to take 20 to 25 years to complete and the total development cost is expected to reach RM200 billion.
He opined that Bandar Malaysia is located in the public transport and highway hub, it is one of the stations of Malaysia – Singapore high speed rail (HSR), Express Rail Link (ERL) as well as Pan Asia Railway, it will definitely attract more enterprises to set up their office there, while its theme park, shopping mall as well as its underground city will also attract many tourists.
According to him, the first phase of Bandar Malaysia would be completed in five years including part of the underground city.
IWH and China Railway Engineering Corporation (CREC) would attract more international and local builders to participate in the construction of Bandar Malaysia, the related projects would also be carried out through open tender, said Lim Kang Hoo at a media conference after the signing of Bandar Malaysia’s Shareholders Agreement today.
Bandar Malaysia is located in Sungai Besi and covers an area of 486 acres, one of its projects includes the construction of a comprehensive urban public transport oriented development model as well as the largest integrated underground city in the world.
Under the project, the integrated city will cover the international financial centre and the RMB clearing centre, regional centre for multinational enterprises, large scale commodity trading centre, Asean Forum Centre, health and medical centre, education centre, intelligent information technology centre, tourist attractions, green and sustainable city, electronic business and international convention and exhibition centre.
Largest underground city in the world
The integrated underground city which covers 486 acres will be the largest underground city in the world when completed; it includes HSR, ERL, electric train, light rail transit (LRT), monorail and central transportation hub for the main roads.
The underground city also consists of 25km long river canal, 10km tram, 100km pedestrian walkway, 40 acres of central green park, theme park, opera, fashion shopping mall as well as food and beverage centre, world class convention and exhibition centre and 200,000 car parking lots.
