Non-Bumi companies to take in Bumi students for attachment programme, exchange promotes understanding and unity, says Joseph Kurup

Dengkil, May 18 – Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Tan Sri Joseph Kurup said non-bumiputera companies taking in more bumiputera students in the Unity Industrial Attachment Programme would enable the students involved to master different working cultures of various races and promote understanding and unity through exchange.
He said bumiputera students accepted the offer from non-bumiputra companies to participate in the attachment programme would enable the students to learn more skills and gaining experiences through integration.
Joseph Kurup told the media this after witnessing the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) among the National Unity and Integration Department, Associated Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry Malaysia (ACCCIM) as well as the Malaysia Retail Chain Association (MRCA) at the Universiti Kuala Lumpur Dengkil branch campus today. Under the MOU, ACCCIM and MRCA will carry out the second phase of unity industry attachment programme for students from the five local universities.
Also present at the signing ceremony were ACCCIM president Datuk Ter Leong Yap, MRCA president Dato’ K S Garry Chua, director of National Unity and Integration Department Datuk Ganesan, president/CEO of Universiti Kuala Lumpur Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mazliham, International Islamic University Malaysia rector Dato’ Seri Zaleha, University Putra deputy vice-chancellor Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mohammad Shatar Sabran, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia deputy vice-chancellor Prof. Dato’ Dr. Imran Ho Abdullah, Universiti Utara Malaysia deputy vice-chancellor Prof Dr. Hassan Ali, University Malaya deputy vice-chancellor Dato’ Prof Rohana, Universiti Teknologi MARA deputy vice-chancellor Dato’ Abdullah Ahmad.
Seven universities take part in unity attachment programme
Joseph Kurup said ACCCIM and MRCA had carried out the first phase of the programme last year which was only involved by University Malaya and Universiti Teknologi MARA which saw 1,022 students participated.
“Under the expansion programme, the number of universities involved has increased to seven; the new participants are Universiti Utara Malaysia, Universiti Putra Malaysia, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Universiti Kuala Lumpur and International Islamic University Malaysia.”
He said under the second phase of the programme, ACCCIM and MRCA was prepared to absorb more than a thousand students to join in the industry attachment programme.
