Number of students studying in China increases year by year, says Lau Lee Ming

Kluang, April 5 – United Chinese School Committees’ Association (Dong Zong) president Datuk Lau Lee Ming said according to the statistics released by the Cultural Office of the Chinese Embassy in Malaysia, the number of students studying in China has been increasing year by year, as of 2015 the total number have reached more than 7, 000.

He pointed out that the statistics showed that there were 4,338 Malaysian students went for further study in China in 2011, the number increased to 6, 045 in 2012, 6,126 in 2013, 6,751 in 2014 and 7,000 in 2015, majority of them are from the Chinese independent high schools pursuing courses in arts and business as well as Chinese and Western medicine.

Lau Lee Ming said this at a press conference held at the Kluang Chong Hwa High School today.

“Apart from organising the higher education fair, Dong Zong Student Affairs Department has also set up the Recommended Project to work with universities in China in helping the students to apply for scholarships and to take follow up action on the applications, to communicate with the universities or to arrange for pickup service at the airport and accommodation.”

He said in 2016 there were 21 famous universities in various provinces and cities of China and Hong Kong commissioned Dong Zong to be responsible for the interview and selection of candidates for the scholarship, this is one of the factors contributed to increase in the number of students studying in China.

The 12th China Higher Education Fair organized by Dong Zong will be held at Kluang Chong Hwa High School on April 20 (Wednesday) from 10.00am to 4.00pm.

Also present at the press conference were Dong Zong deputy president Tan Tai Kim, vice-president Yang Yin Chong, secretary-general Poh Chin Chuan, chief executive officer Hong Waon Ying and others.
