Vice chairman of Ikatan is the grandson of Tunku Abdul Rahman Ikatan has two Chinese leaders
Parti Ikatan Bangsa Malaysia (Ikatan) has two Chinese leaders. One of the vice chairmen is Datuk Tony Looi, president of Malaysia Entrepreneurs’ Development Association. The other one is treasurer of Ikatan Datuk Seri Steven Eng, chairman of Blue Sky International Holdings Limited.
Another vice chairman is Tunku Abdul Rahman‘s grandson Tunku Muinuddin Putra and several members of royalty from Kedah and Kelantan holding senior positions in the party.
Former Tourism Minister Tan Sri Abdul Kadir Sheikh Fadzir registered Ikatan with Registrar of Societies in 2012 and launched the party on 15 May last year.
Red and white are the colours of the party logo. Tunku Abdul Rahman’s hand gesture announcing Merdeka then is placed at the centre of the logo.
Abdul Kadir was an MP in Kedah for many terms. He was not fielded in 2008 general elections. He resigned from Umno on 19 March 2012 and ceased to be the treasurer of Kulim Umno division.
When the party was being formed, there were three vice chairmen, including former Bar Council chairman Raghunath, former banker Ong Hock Siew and former deputy education minister Datuk Bujang Ulis. The then secretary-general for the pro-tem committee was Datuk Seri Mustafa Kamal Maulut, chairman of Koperasi Pendidikan Islam Malaysia Berhad (UKHWAH).
