Ling Liong Sik: India to help in training, Utar hospital to be operational by end of the year

Kampar, February 24 – Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (Utar) council chairman Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik said the initial programme for the Sultan Azlan Shah Hospital which was in the plan would be set up soon, the hospital might also become the paediatric cardiology centre for Asia-Pacific region.

He said Utar council members had visited India and signed the memorandum of understanding (MOU) with India’s children cardiac centre to conduct exchange visits for cardiology specialists, surgeons and students once Hospital Sultan Azlan Shah is completed.

Ling Liong Sik told a press conference here today after the meeting with Malaysia Mental Literacy Movement on the 12th Malaysia Festival of the Mind.

He reiterated that the construction cost of the planned Utar hospital would be about RM300 million, it would be located at the Utar campus in Kampar.

He estimated that the plan would take off by end of the year; however, the details would only be confirmed after the Utar construction committee meets tomorrow.

On the visit to India, Ling Liong Sik said the delegation had discussed with the specialists on various aspects, including caring of the child patient of which parents are also involved and to enable the parents concerned to learn how to use the basic medical instruments.

Refused to talk on court case

On the court case brought up by the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib against him, Ling Liong Sik refused to comment.
