KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 17 – Deputy Minister of Education Chong Sing Woon said it was a very kind move of China’s Ambassador to Malaysia Dr Huang Huikang to make donation to several Chinese primary schools (SJKC) in Johor; the public should not have negative thoughts on it.

He said the government welcomes all kind of donation including book donation or school construction fund given by anyone to any school. Apart from receiving government funding, SJKC are also working together with various organisations in raising funds.

“Education transcends country boundaries. We are grateful for the Chinese Ambassador’s donation. And this is not the first year the Ambassador donated, in the past, he had donated in kind and cash to many Chinese independent school or national type secondary schools (SMJK). This is definitely an act of kindness.”

Also present were Kuala Lumpur Hawkers and Petty Traders Association (KLHPTA) chairman Dato’ Ang Say Tee and vice chairman Datuk Liao Jin Hua and others.

Chong Sing Woon said DAP Kulai MP Teo Nie Ching was being negative when she mentioned that the government should not take the donation for granted.

He said Teo should focus on managing her own constituent and be grateful for the donation, just like the others.

Requests commemorative lanterns from China

On the other hand, Ang Say Tee said many Malaysian corporations and entrepreneurs have built schools in China. Huang Huikang’s donation is a kind gesture of education exchange and the public should not politicize the move.

He said the Indian President had presented many gifts to the Little India at Brickfields. KLHPTA will write to the Chinese embassy and request China to provide commemorative lanterns and other decoration to be displayed at Petaling Street, in order to serve as a tribute to ethnic Chinese’s contribution in nation building and attract more tourists.
