Statistics revealed that 8000 Malaysians gave up their citizenship between the Years 2014 to 2015.

This figure accounted for only 0.03 % of the total population of more than 30 million Malaysians. In term of cash, it was similar to losing 3 sen from the pocket with RM100.

Many people opined that such figure is insignificant but one important fact that should not be left out was: 96.7% of them were Malaysian Chinese.

Rather than saying the new place of adobe has excellent living conditions which attracted the Malaysians to migrate, it is better to say that they had lost hope of the place they were born and brought up. Having or not having a Malaysian citizenship was immaterial as there was nothing bright to look out for. It was better to sever ties with the homeland.

For a Malaysian Chinese, it was not difficult to have the feeling of “Nothing to look forward to”. This is similar to buying clothes in a boutique. There were clients who were qualified as a Diamond card member easily whereas you being a long term client of the shop were only qualified as an ordinary member despite regularly purchasing from the shop. Sometimes you are forced to tolerate the poor treatment from the shop assistant. If you are not happy, they asked you to purchase your goods elsewhere!

We were born in the same place and delivered by the same gynaecologist. Just because we were different in colours, our fate as ordinary members of the shop was unavoidable. In the movie ‘Ola Bola’, the glory of victory with the last shot was claimed by others unconditionally. Will such experience made you emotionally disturbed and disappointed?

Not entitled to even the basic human right

No, I am not a racist even though I am speaking on behalf of the Malaysian Chinese. It is for a very simple reason: All men are equal. Since our nationality is written as “Malaysian”, we should enjoy equal treatment in politics, economy, education and others.

Equal treatment is the basic right which should be enjoyed by all Malaysians. Did MCA, Gerakan and other Chinese based political parties try their very best to fight for the “basic human right”? What were their achievements?

MCA won 7 parliamentary seats and 11 state seats and Gerakan won 1 parliamentary seat and 3 state seats in the last general election. It was claimed the loss of the Chinese votes was due to the persistent slandering and discrediting by the Opposition. If it is true, this rationale is like an insult to the voters’ intelligence. The effort to activate the election machinery earlier with the intention of recapturing the lost constituencies is a naïve and stupid move.

The incidents of the loss of Chinese votes and Chinese willing to give up their citizenship should strike strongly and awakened the Chinese based political parties. If the basic human right that should be enjoyed by the Chinese community yet the political parties cannot fight for it, then Chinese voters will definitely abandon the parties further and further away.

The Deputy Minister of Education cum MCA Youth Chief Chong Sin Woo had vowed to capture 10 parliamentary seats in the next general election. I shall give him a heartily recommendation: Please settle all the backlog of Chinese school teachers’ transfer and speed up the recognition of the UEC certificate first!
