Let’s say a ruling party A of a state disregard environment and insist on land reclamation, the opposition party B of this state in the assembly objects to such motion. However, in the end, A used “the party spirit” to successfully overwhelm all the state assemblymen of its house but only one resist. Consequently, such a person is fallen to a situation that “he quits the party”.

If using the above theory to discuss it in the coffee shop, I believe that many Uncles would scold A is so overbearing and praise the state assemblyman that does not succumb is so brave.

If the riddle is uncovered to show that A is DAP and B is Umno, I believe that there is no uncle that would say anything anymore. It does not seem right at all to be scolding DAP in public places.

This actually fully reflect how the mindset of Malaysian Chinese “is targeting the party and not the matter” with regard to politics. The same land reclamation project, DAP has strongly objected before ruling Penang, after it is ruling it becomes the main driver. This is an issue of principle that is either right or wrong, at this juncture, it turns upside down completely, how can people not scold? Even its own assemblyman (even though it is just one person) and assemblymen of party alliance (PKR) dare not agree.

The Malaysian Chinese who do not scold DAP basically have two types of mindset:

1) DAP represents righteousness. One does not need to think whether DAP’s action is right or wrong, it is fine to just support everything that it does.

2) To support DAP is to change the government, regardless of what DAP did wrong, it should not be an obstacle to change the government so just let it slide.

The former is not so smart and the latter is too smart. It is too smart to the extent that one is willing to pay any price to change the government.

There is no angel or demon

However, the cruel reality is that all ruling parties under the sky are the same. Even one as holy as DAP, it still wants to reclaim land after it is ruling. All the agendas behind the land reclamation project require people to guess with their intelligent. Other than that, DAP also learned to use “the party spirit” to overwhelm its own assemblymen and force them to support a project that it used to strongly object before it ruled.

One can only say that power leads to corruption. There is no distinction between angels and demons in politics.

Whoever takes the stage to hold the power will become the demon that finds ways to dig more resources. The opposition can only stare from below the stage and find the dirt of the ruling party. As for the observers, would they prefer to blindly “target the party and not the matter” or begin to smartly distinguish it with “the matter and not the party”?

The quality of the people decides the quality of the government.
