Ipoh, Dec 10 – Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Wee Ka Siong said Perak has the most number of Chinese new villages in the country, for the total allocation of more than RM30 million for all the new villages in the country, Perak alone had received RM8.8 million, which is ¼ of the total amount.
“There are a total of 162 new villages in Perak, thus Perak state has received most of the government allocations, for next year there will be RM60 million allocations from the central government for new villages in the country, Perak is believed to be receiving the most funds.”
Wee Ka Siong is also MCA deputy president; he was speaking to reporters after officiating the Simpang Pulai New Village Development and Security Committee office this afternoon.
On problems relating to water pressure, water pipe and drainage system in Simpang Pulai new village raised by the villages, he said he would bring the problem to the attention of Water Asset Management Company under the purview of central water department, and to write to the relevant department to have the water pipe changed.
“The central department will help the Perak state water authority to change the water pipes, it has carried out the works in some of the places but could not get to change them all in a short time, and they have to carry on with the works, soon they will come to this village. I shall write to the relevant departments to have the problems solved as soon as possible.”
On the problem of drainage system, he said there is an industrial area adjacent to the new village, some of the drains had been covered up during the construction of the factories, causing blockage of the drains and floods when rains.
“As the drains are hiding under the houses, the repairing works are very difficult to carry out, funds provided by the ministry are for the construction of infrastructures, but the problem must be solved and thus, we have to seek the help from other department such as Water and Drainage Department.”
To build cover for basketball field
Wee Ka Siong hoped the factories take into consideration the situation of the villagers when constructing the temporary drainage; they should not only think of the convenient access for trucks and affect the livelihood of the villagers.
He said the Simpang Pulai New Village Development and Security Committee office building which was built by the village committee cost RM98,000; apart from this, the village committee also proposed to build cover for the basketball field in the village.
“Basketball field is the place for the villagers to gather during daytime and doing activities at night, it is very important to the youngsters and seniors in the village, they hope that the basketball field would be covered to solve the problem of exposing to sun and rain.”
He said he would consider allocating some funds next year to build the cover, he will send a technical team to do the cost survey but according to his estimation, the project would cost less than RM100, 000.
