Chong Sin Woon: Students from China are lured by dynamism in education to study in Malaysia

(China, Beijing 10 Nov) Deputy Education Minister cum MCA youth chief Chong Sin Woon reveals that Malaysia, as a multi-racial and multi-cultural country where its people are able to commend three languages, has attracted Chinese nationals to send their children to study in Malaysia to build good foundation in English.
He points out that age of students from China studying in Malaysia is getting younger. Many parents are of the view that Malaysia offers conducive environment to study and hope that their children would be able to undergo education in Malaysia earlier.
“I am of the view that Malaysia should take advantage of such trend. Ultimately the government also wants to shape Malaysia into a regional education centre.”
Chong says this in a press conference after leading a delegation to visit All China Youth Federation today. He is received by the vice chairman Zhou Changkui.
Chinese groups plan to set up international school in Malaysia
He reveals that some of the Chinese groups are keen to invest in Malaysia by setting up international schools and recruit students from China to study in Malaysia.
On foreign groups keen to invest in Malaysia by setting up an international school, he says currently there is a Chinese Graduates Association in Malaysia and the basic foundation of setting up an international school exists. However, syllabus would require to be discussed.
He explains that the interested party would need to submit the syllabus of a new school to Education Ministry for verification before a decision can be made.
On China’s plan to set up Confucius School in Malaysia, Chong says he supports the idea as this will be able to upgrade the knowledge of Chinese culture among Malaysian of all races.
Youth are encouraged to set up online business
Chong says with the setting up of Youth Agriculture Co-operatives by MCA youth and explore more business opportunities for farmers; he encourages youth to make good use of social media by setting up online business.
He points out that currently many youth are selling fruits from Cameron Highlands online. They are receiving good response for selling straw berries online.
He also says since September this year, Malaysia has started sending a container of watermelon to Hong Kong once a week. He hopes Malaysia can co-operate with China to export fruits to China’s market regularly.
In addition, he says he hopes youth groups from Malaysia and China are able to have interactions to discuss more on practical events for youth from China to know more about Malaysia.
He says basically, youth from China have vague knowledge about Malaysia. He hopes in future, more discussions can be held with youth groups from China.
Zhou Changkui: Youth groups from Malaysia and China are to have close interaction in this century
Zhou points out that youth groups from China have been maintaining close interactions with youth group from Malaysia starting this century.
After spending one hour interacting with MCA youth group today, Zhou shared the role played by the organisation in organising events, reform and its recruitment drive.
He says youth aged between 14 and 28 are entitled to join All-China Youth Federation. However once the members exceed 28-years-old they are to leave the organisation.
He says the federation has also set up youth entrepreneurs association to enhance rapport among young entrepreneurs.
When the youth groups from China and Malaysia are discussing about the export of durian, Zhou says he has led a delegation of 100 people to Malaysia in 2012 and tasted a type of durian called Musang King. They all loved the fruit.
Chong Sin Woon leads a delegation to Beijing for visit
Chong leads a delegation of 16 MCA youth leaders and seven young entrepreneurs to visit Beijing for 3 days. Currently he is having interactions with youth groups in China.
Chong’s delegation visits All China Youth Federation today where both sides met for an hour.
Those in the delegation are vice chairmen of MCA youth Tan Chee Hiong, Wong Siaw Ting, secretary-general Dato Leong Kim Son, national organising secretary Lim Chai Kui, deputy secretary-general cum cultural bureau chief Tee Hooi Ling, deputy treasurer Nian Yien, assistant to secretary-general Teow Chia Ling, publicity chief Chan Wun Hoong, Negeri Sembilan youth chief Leaw Kok Chan, Malacca youth chief Lim Swee Hu, Perlis youth chief Chung Muh Sha, Youth talent corporation deputy chief Tee Tze Wei, small and medium industries development bureau chief Lee Han Lim, young entrepreneurs bureau head Huang Zhi Xiang (pinyin), overseas bureau liaison chief Yao Dao Yi (pinyin), e-business development bureau deputy chief Hou Tian Ping (pinyin) and secretariat executive officer Chen Ming Zhen (pinyin).
Representatives from China are assistant to All China Youth Federation chairman Wan Xuejun and vice minister Li Jing.
