Sept 16 rally will not turn into violence as Malaysians are mature, says Kuan Chee Heng

Puchong, Sept 12 – Community Policing Malaysia president Kuan Chee Heng said he believe that the Sept 16 rally would be held peacefully and not turn into violence as Malaysians are mature.

He also reminded the public not to spread extreme and misleading message on the social media, should they have any doubt they could call up Bukit Aman police headquarters to make enquiry, the telephone number is 03-2031 9999.

He said he would go to the venue where the rally is being held together with 10 community policing members to make supervision to ensure the peace of the rally.

He said in a media conference today that he had met with the Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Khalid, the latter ensure him that the rally is under the control of the police.

“I believe that over the past 58 years Malaysians of different ethnicity have been living under the same roof, they are mature enough to have mutual respect and understanding and will not play up racial sentiment, so that the nation can move forward,” he said.

He reminded Umno members who are going to take part in the rally to be responsible to their own behavior as well as to their family. He also stressed that the Malaysia Day on Sept 16 should be celebrated by all Malaysians.

During the media conference, he had displayed the banner printed with the words ‘without you, where am I’, meaning without the country there will be no people. He also greeted Malaysia happy birthday.

On the other hand, Kuan Chee Heng said many people had accessed to the information through social media and also received messages and phone calls regarding the rally which were negative causing them to feel jittery.

He reminded the public not to believe in all this information received by them and ought to make verification on the truth.

He reminded those who spread the rumors that they could be remanded by the police under Sedition Act and Section 505 (b) of the Penal Code (Whoever makes, publishes or circulates any statement, rumor with intent to cause, or which is likely to cause, fear or alarm to the public).

He urged the public to report to the police whenever they received false information to enable the police to carry out investigation.

“Those who want to enquire about the details of the rally can call up Bukit Aman police headquarters (03-2031 9999), police will set up an operation room on the day the rally is held,” he added.

In addition, in view of Bukit Bintang and Jalan Petaling are famous tourist spots, he suggested that the venue of the rally be shifted to Merdeka Square or Padang Merbok so that businesses would not be interrupted and also tourists would not shy away from the areas.

“I understand majority of the traders will close shop on that day for fear of being affected, but the rentals in these areas are not cheap, during the weekend and public holidays there are usually more crowds, so I suggest to change the venue of the rally.”
