Kuala Lumpur, Sept 12 – An ironman in police force is looking for his Chinese relatives.
Former special branch deputy director Datuk Abdul Hamid who openly told the media that there was invisible force interfering in police operation, and also making statements regarding 1MDB quite often and has been hailed as the ‘ironman in police force’, is hoping to be able to reunite with their Chinese relatives who had lost contact for decades through Oriental Daily.
Abdul Hamid whose appearance looks like Chinese told Oriental Daily that his mother Minah@ Munah was being given to a Malay family during the Japanese occupation; she did not realize that she was a Chinese until his grandfather told her just before his death.
“When my mother knew about this she was already 65, she had been hoping to find her biological parents and I have been trying in vain for 11 years looking for my Chinese relatives. My mother passed away at the age of 76, she was unable to locate her parents and Chinese relatives even until she died,” he said.
According to Abdul Hamid, his mother had given birth to 10 children, among them five appear like Chinese, the other five are more like Malay, the siblings were hoping to find their Chinese relatives after knowing the unfulfilled wish of their mother so that they can reunite and sit down and talk.
Hopes Chinese community will help
“According to my investigation, my mother was born in Rembau, Negeri Sembilan, her parents run a small shop in Rembau old town, during the Japanese occupation she was given to a Malay family. I had visited Rembau old town several times, but the shop had been closed down a few years ago and I was told that the family shifted to Malacca.”
He said the foster parents of his mother were very protective, they had never revealed her true origin and also her real surname even though subsequently she was told about it.
“My mother was an ulama, for so many years people are teasing me for having a Malay heart but with Chinese face, I never feel offended, instead I feel proud. My children all look more like Chinese but we live well,” he added.
Abdul Hamid said at the moment he could only rely on a few photographs of her mother captured when she was young, hoping that some Chinese friends would help to find their Chinese relatives in order to fulfill her late mother’s wish.
Loyal to police force and never against conscience
“By searching for my relatives through the media, besides to fulfill my mother’s wish, I also want to tell the racists regardless whether I am Chinese or Malay, I am a police officer when I put up my uniform and I am an ordinary Malaysian citizen when I take off my uniform, and I am as open as the day,” he stressed.
Abdul Hamid said he had spoken to media quite frequently after he was transferred out of the police, there were criticisms against him on the internet, some even said that he looked like Chinese and would never safeguard the rights of Malays; they even questioned his integrity as a police officer.
He stressed that all the while the statements made by him were all based on truth and factual and not on racial elements. He failed to understand why the racist had made a fuss out of this.
“Yes, my father is Malay, I look like Chinese but I can’t speak Chinese. All these are not important, what is important is as a member of the police force, I did nothing which is against my conscience and the country.”
