Kuala Lumpur, Sept 9 – Associated Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM) said the rally filled with racial sentiment and to be held at inappropriate places in which commercial centres and tourists spots are located will adversely affect our economy which is already in bad shape.

“Rally with racial sentiment will deter foreign investors and tourists as well as arousing fears among the people,” ACCCIM said in a statement issued today. It agreed with the police which had announced that the rally on September 16 is illegal and urged police to ban any rally with racial sentiment lest the country’s economy be hit hard and national peace be threatened.

Not to destroy national harmony and stability

ACCCIM said political stability and racial harmony is the important element in propelling the national economic development. What the people want is peace and prosperity, a peaceful environment that they can live in happily.
ACCCIM called on all quarters not to deliberately jeopardize the harmony and stability which has been in existence in the country for many years. It also appealed to the authority to take stern action to stop the extreme speech and actions that would harm the interracial relations and harmony.

“In the current national economic downturn, all the people should unite in a concerted effort to strive for the economic recovery and restore market confidence. Factors like sharp depreciation of ringgit, international crude oil prices plummeted, commodity prices sliding, the lag effect of Goods and Services Tax, stock market crash, the sharp depreciation of the renminbi, the forecast of increase in the interest rate by the United States, have made our economy facing a severe test and pressure.”

National Chamber of Commerce and Industry Malaysia (NCCIM) which is the apex body of commercial and industry sectors in Malaysia representing the Malay Chamber of Commerce Malaysia, Malaysian Associated Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Federation of Manufacturers Malaysia, Malaysia International Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and ACCCIM had issued a statement yesterday supported police action in preventing any racially provocative rally, saying that such a gathering would affect business sentiment and will adversely affect foreign investment inflow.

Meanwhile, Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry urged police to ban any racially provocative rally to avoid damage to the economic development and have negative effect on foreign investors.
