Registry of Societies would inspect Bible Society of Malaysia
Sin Chew Daily, 30 June 2015
(Selangor, Petaling Jaya 29 June) Sources from Bible Society of Malaysia confirms that Registrar of Societies (ROS) would be inspecting its office in Damansara Kim tomorrow afternoon.
An unnamed source said the email sent by ROS states that officers would be checking on the minutes of meeting and other documents of Bible Society of Malaysia in the latter’s office.
This time, ROS has invoked Societies Act 1966 Act to check on Bible Society of Malaysia. Committee members of the society are worried. President of Bible Society of Malaysia Ng Boon Hing is currently overseas and unable to be contacted. Sources said comments can only be made after ROS completes its checks.
The Bible Society of Malaysia was raided by Selangor Islamic Affairs Department in January last year and confiscated 351 copies of bible in Malay and Iban, as well as Gospel of Luke.
Selangor Islamic Religious Affairs Department returned the confiscated bibles close to a year later but the bibles were stamped with the warning of “not to be distributed in any parts of Selangor”. The Bible Society of Malaysia is unhappy with the warning.
