Teresa Kok: Adnan becomes laughing stock by asking China to remind Malaysian Chinese on government’s contribution
Oriental Daily News, June 3, 2015
KUALA LUMPUR, June 3 – DAP national vice president Teresa Kok expressed her shock and disappointment towards the Minister of Federal Territories Tengku Adnan’s remark saying “he hopes the Chinese government will remind Malaysian Chinese of the Malaysian government’s contribution in the past 57 years”.
She believed the remark of asking a foreign government to help Barisan Nasional gains the voters’ support will make the Malaysian government a laughing stock in the eyes of the world.
She said as a cabinet minister, Tengku Adnan’s remark towards the Chinese ambassador to Malaysia is bringing disgrace to his identity as a cabinet minister. The Malaysian Chinese in this democratic country have the right and wisdom to make assessment and judgment towards the current political scenario of the country as well as vote for the political party that they wish.
Teresa Kok who is also Seputeh MP issued a statement saying that the Malaysian Chinese do not need a foreign government to give them any advice.
“Most Malaysian Chinese are citizens of Malaysia that were born and raised in this country. The Chinese government has no right to advise Malaysian Chinese to support Barisan Nasional. Tengku Adnan may still be subconsciously considering Malaysian Chinese as citizens of China who are temporarily residing in Malaysia.” she said.
She also mentioned that Tengku Adnan’s remark is obviously asking for Chinese government to help Barisan Nasional to gain political support, but it was a very silly move.
“Firstly, the Chinese government will not interfere with the politics in Malaysia and it will never speak for Barisan government. Secondly, Tengku Adnan’s remark shows that Barisan has come to a pathetic state in which it had to ask a foreign government to help the party regaining political support.”
She said Tengku Adnan’s remark shows that he has lost confidence in the ability of MCA, Gerakan and SUPP to regain the Chinese’ support.
She emphasised that Malaysian Chinese are only asking for the government to provide fair treatment to the Chinese community. If the Barisan government wants to regain the support of Chinese voters, it should be serious in implementing fair governance.
