Tan Ah Chai: Pakatan Rakyat exists in name only
Sin Chew Daily, 5 June 2015
(Selangor, Petaling Jaya 4 Jun) Current issue commentator Tan Ah Chai is of the view that Pakatan Rakyat is in a state of split. The coalition exists in name only even without announcement of dissolution.
“Unless all parties are willing to put in greater effort or a strong leader can mediate. Currently such personality does not exist.”
He said the Anwar has been playing this role. But in later stage, Anwar showed that he could no longer hold on. As a woman, Wan Azizah faces a great challenge.
Tan says as the Dewan Ulama proposes to severe ties with DAP but opts to remain in Pakatan Rakyat, this is a pragmatic choice. But Pakatan Rakyat is in a state of split.
PKR’s approach is important
Wong Chin Huat opines that PKR’s approach is important at this moment, depending on PKR opts to be with PAS or DAP.
“This requires many considerations including defending the Selangor state government and consideration on constituency. Joining PAS risks setback from non-Muslim voters.”
He is of the view that there would be a definite answer on whether Pakatan Rakyat would be dissolved. Selangor state government would not be affected if consensus is reached to jointly rule Selangor without severing ties.
He points out that both PAS and DAP do not wish to leave Pakatan Rakyat on its own accord. Both hope the other side to make the move to withdraw while the decision made by Dewan Ulama sparked of public sentiment not to succumb to DAP.
