PCAH announces good news – Penang Chinese Consulate to set up in 2015

PENANG – Penang Chinese Assembly Hall (PCAH) announced good news to the Chinese community of northern Malaysia – the much anticipated Chinese Consulate in Penang will be established in the second half of the year. The new Consul General Wu Jun will take office in July. The Consulate will bring convenience to the Penang Chinese community.

In a visit to PCAH, China’s vice consul-general to Penang Chu Kaimin said the establishment of the Chinese Consulate will not only bring convenience to the visa application for Chinese community in Kedah, Perlis and Penang, it will also further promote exchanges between two countries in the development of political, economy, culture and education.

Consul General to take office next month

Chu Kaimin who has been stationed in Penang for two months have started setting up the Chinese Consulate in Penang with the help of consulate officers Bai Jianwen and Hu Yi. He said the team has identified several possible locations, the suggestions will be submitted to China’s central government after comprehensive comparison. The establishment of a Consulate is not an easy task, it requires detailed planning. Ideally, the project should be completed in the second half of this year.

“Malaysian Chinese have been participating and contributing to China’s development since China’s reform to this day. Currently, 80% of the overseas Chinese investment is from Malaysian Chinese.”

Chu Kaimin mentioned that this is the best time in the history of China-Malaysia bilateral relationship. Malaysia has not only become China’s largest trade partner in Asia after Japan and Korea, it has also been included in the Silk Road Economic Belt and the Maritime Silk Road planning (also known as“the Belt and Road”).

He hoped that the establishment of the Consulate will promote the development of trade, cultural, tourism and other aspects.
