Ong Ka Chuan: Religion should be included in moral education

Ipoh, June 2 – MCA Secretary-General Dato’ Seri Ong Ka Chuan said MCA would propose to the government to include all religious teaching in the moral education of the schools with the aim of cultivating the younger generation with sublime humanistic quality.
He said the 11th Malaysia Plan is the last Malaysia plan before the country move towards the objective of becoming a developed nation, besides the hardware development, the government should also enhance the humanistic quality and to instill sublime moral value, so that when the country attain the developed nation status, the mindset and moral of the people would also be enhanced side by side.
Ong Ka Chuan is also Member of Parliament for Tanjung Malim, he said this at a press conference after attending the opening ceremony of Buddhism Puja ceremony organized by the Qian Fo Shan Buddhist Society at the Dou Mu Gong Temple here this morning.
“Crime and social problems emerged all over the world and the Rohinya migrants who escaped from Myanmar, cases where mother was killed by son or father killing the son which have happened every now and then demonstrates the devoid of humanity. MCA proposed that the government to include the religious teaching in the moral education of the school to develop the rightful humanistic attitude which is in accordance with the multi-religious social system.
Concern with the people with Jihadist mindset
“Since the government had provide religious education for Muslim students, it should also include Buddhism, Taoism, Christianity and Hinduism in the school curriculum, and to engage qualified teachers to teach the relevant subjects and not to allow them to fumble on their own,” he added.
He said although religion teach people to be good, the IS has instilled terror and extreme ideas to the ignorance.
He urged the government to monitor closely those people intended to join the Jihadist abroad and also those who made used of the internet to lure the innocent ladies to marry to Syria fighters, he also worried that they would also bring in the terrorism upon returning to the country.
Qian Fo Shan Buddhist Society abbot Rev Zhi Yi said the Puja would be held from today until Sunday hoping that it would bring about purification of mind.
Najib and Tun Mahathir should resolve their differences
Lest affecting Malaysia’s image
Ong Ka Chuan hoped that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib and former Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir would resolve their differences as soon as possible as the disputes between both sides had brought forth negative impact on the country.
He said Mahathir and Najib were all national leaders, they have contributed towards the national development, but their rift had caused adverse effect to the country’s development, other leaders would also have to clarify the allegations against them.
“Both of them are in lofty positions, I believe there are mediators trying to find a satisfactory solution to the problem. After all they are not ordinary people but leaders full of wisdom, they should not be treated like small kids,” he said.
He said the quarrel between two leaders would definitely affect the image of the country, outsiders would think that our leaders were quarrelling every day and therefore, they should stop the war of words as soon as possible.
“Whether Najib should resign or not is not for me to decide and also it is not fair for him, the 1MDB issue should be dealt with by the PAC,” he added.
He said if there is someone who made mistakes, then he must be held responsible and be accountable, but until new there was no evidence, so people should not make any wild allegations.
