(Kuala Lumpur 8 June) Former PAS deputy chairman Mohamad Sabu said some PAS leaders and members have accused him and other pro-Pakatan Rakyat leaders as anti-Ulama and do not defend the party president. Some are eyeing for the position as once power in their hand they would find ways to mend ties with DAP.

In a posting on his Facebook, he said some members are attempting to start a dispute by accusing him, former vice chairmen Salahuddin and Husam Musa, former publicity chief Mahfuz, former election head Hatta Ramli, former PAS youth chief Suhaizan, Kota Raja MP Siti Maria, Sepang MP Hanipa and Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad of not respecting leadership by ulama. They are also accused of not defending ulama.

I am being branded as “DAP agent”

Mat Sabu pointed out when those being accused tried to reply, they were later branded as “anti-Ulama” and accused of being more loyal to party leaders of PKR and DAP and when party president was attacked by DAP, they did not defend party president.

“I become a target. I am accused of not defending the president during the Selangor Menteri Besar crisis and also with the DAP. Accusations between DAP and PAS leaders have almost reached a stage of losing control. PAS leaders opine that the party should sever ties with DAP to fight the battle alone.”

At the Dewan Ulama muktamar on 3 June, Ulama Consultative Council chairman Datuk Harun Din stressed that criteria for political co-operation between PAS and DAP have been damaged. Co-operation is over. The Dewan Ulama’s motion to sever ties with DAP was passed. All delegates supported severe ties with DAP.

At 10.30pm on 4 June, Mat Sabu and leaders mentioned above were all defeated in party election.

Mat Sabu said one week prior to party election, party president has said members were free to elect candidates who were representing DAP or candidates who defended party policy. Candidates who were branded as “succumb to DAP” or “Anwar’s gang” were all lost.

Sabu lamented that the brandings and accusations were only a tool used to win the positions.

Mend ties with DAP after gaining power

“After winning the position, they would find ways to mend ties with DAP. Those who have jointly built Pakatan Rakyat right from beginning have been removed. Is power the greatest pursuit? I hope Allah can guide us.”

Mat Sabu lost to conservative group candidate Datuk Tuan Ibrahim in the just concluded party election and failed to defend the position of deputy president.

Tuan Ibrahim received 881 votes while Mat Sabu 279 votes. Mat Sabu said he was disappointed by the low number of votes he received and was of the opinion that the result was a mystery.
