Liang Jing Lan: Good opportunity to pursue further studies in Taiwan with lots of scholarships
Sin Chew Daily, 7 June 2015
(Selangor, Petaling Jaya 7 June) The president of alumni of National Taiwan Normal University Malaysia, Liang Jing Lan points out that many Taiwan universities are offering scholarships and study aid for Malaysian students. Secondary school graduates from Chinese independent schools and secondary vernacular schools should seize the opportunity to further their studies in Taiwan.
“Recently, the Federation of Alumni Associations of Taiwan Universities, Malaysia led a delegation to visit 10 universities in Taiwan and discovered that many universities are offering scholarships and study aid to assist Malaysian students to study in Taiwan. National Taiwan Normal University has offered many new courses where scholarships and study aids are also offered. Students should not miss the boat.”
Liang said this in her speech at a dinner to celebrate the 43rd anniversary of alumni in Selangor and 69th anniversary of university last night. She said there are many alumni from the university with outstanding achievement in politics, economics, culture and education.
Citing an example, she mentioned the former Bukit Mertajam MP, the late Chian Heng Kai, renowned music teacher Chen Hui Chong, Malaysia’s diabolo master Feng Ya Ping and others who have contributed to the country.
Lee Ser Chong: Verification procedure should be simplified
The President of the federation Lee Ser Chong said that foreign students applying to study in Taiwan are required to go through lengthy process of verification from foreign ministry, Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Malaysia and other relevant agencies. He is of the view that Taiwan should simplify the verification process for foreign students.
“Previously, I have received positive reply from Ming Chuan University. The university allows affiliated associations of federation to assist foreign students in handling the process of verifying documents when the university starts in September. This is terrific. I believe such move will see more Malaysian Chinese pursue their studies in Taiwan.”
When the federation led a group to visit 12 universities in Taiwan 2 weeks ago, he said discussions were carried out with the Education Ministry of Taiwan, heads of universities and relevant agencies.
“This can be a giant leap. We hope to receive reply from more Taiwan universities soon.”
Alumni from East Malaysia, Taiwan, Philippines, Indonesia and other places attended the celebration dinner. Alumni who have served Chinese education for 25 to 35 years received outstanding teacher award at the dinner.
Those who attended the dinner included honorary president of the federation Tan Sri Ng Teik Fong, advisor Lai Kuan Fook, deputy president Chen Zhi Guang, vice president Zhong Jin Gou, advisor Liu Bang Quan, education division head Zhu Duo Ming and cultural division head Xiao Xian Ming, Southern Malaysia alumni Datuk Lu Jin Long, Sin Chew Daily vice executive editor in chief Lin Rui Yuan, news editor Hou Ya Lun, assistant news editors Xiao Miao Fa and Lai Pei Feng, corporation communication and marketing department senior manager Liu Kun Sheng and others.
