Johor Bahru Tiong Hua Association opt-out of Johor Hua Zong, Pheng Yin Hua will help to reconcile

Johor Baru, June 3 – President of the Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia (Hua Zong) Tan Sri Pheng Yin Huah will help to arrange for Johor Bahru Tiong Hua Association and Federation of Johor Chinese Associations (Johor Hua Zong) to negotiate with the hope that both parties will reconcile.

Two years after its membership with Johor Hua Zong was suspended, Johor Bahru Tiong Hua Association announced yesterday that it has decided to exit from the Johor Hua Zong, the announcement has caused the shock of the Chinese community in the country.

Hua Zong president Tan Sri Pheng Yin Huah has agreed to help both Johor Bahru Tiong Hua Association and Johor Hua Zong which is an affiliate of Hua Zong to reconcile.

Johor Bahru Tiong Hua Association president Datuk Seri Tey Kim Chai told China Press in an interview that Pheng Yin Huah had contacted him this morning to express regret over the decision of the association to quit Johor Hua Zong.

Opt-out move applauded by many Chinese societies

Nevertheless, he said, Pheng Yin Huah also mentioned that he respected the decision made by the council of Johor Bahru Tiong Hua Association after much consideration. Pheng indicated that he would try to talk to president of Johor Hua Zong Datuk Lim Kah Chuan.

On the other hand, Tey Kim Chai said the decision to opt-out of Johor Hua Zong was applauded by many Chinese societies in Johor Bahru.

“We stand firm with our decision to withdraw from Johor Hua Zong as its leadership has been in abnormality and has lost its principle of fairness,” he said.

On July 28, 2013, Johor Hua Zong in its central committee meeting had decided to freeze the membership of Johor Bahru Tiong Hua Association to avoid from becoming illegal organization because one of its affiliates which was the Johor Bahru Tiong Hua Association was found to have registered under non-profit limited company.

Johor Bahru Tiong Hua Association has since file lawsuit against Johor Hua Zong in Johor Baru High Court, Court of Appeal and Federal Court but was dismissed.

Johor Bahru Tiong Hua Association is the founder member of Johor Hua Zong, nevertheless, it decided to exit from Johor Hua Zong in the council meeting held on May 28.
