Huang Ya Zhu donates RM1.5 million to New Era College

JOHOR BARU, Jun 3 – 86 year-old Huang Ya Zhu who generously donated RM1.5 million to New Era College said she is even willing to donate her cadaver for the Chinese education movement!
In the May 31 Sunshine Movement, 86 year-old woman Huang Ya Zhu announced that she will donate RM1.5 million, which is the entire revenue from the sales of all her properties to New Era College (NEC). Her donation sparked the society’s attention, many have expressed their respect to the grandma who is now living with limited mobility.
In fact, this is not the first Grandma Huang is donating to NEC. In 2010, through the help of former Dong Zong (United Chinese School Committees Association) president Quek Suan Hiang, Huang Ya Zhu sold some of her properties and donated RM118,000 to the NEC student loan foundation.
Grandma Huang said she had just transferred the ownership of shop lot under her name and her current residence to NEC, the properties are worth a total of RM1.5 million. The donation will be used for the college’s development. She will continue to stay in her current residence.
On Tuesday afternoon, Kwong Wah Yit Poh visited Grandma Huang and found that the charitable grandma is actually lives a very humble lifestyle. Her furniture have been in used for several decades, she will only get new clothes when her clothes have worn out. Her daily meals are basic and simple, she spent RM200 each month for three meals a day.
