Huang Ling: USD2.7 billion trade volume with Xiamen, China puts Malaysia as top partner of Maritime Silk Road

PENANG – China Xiamen People’s Friendship Association Council (XPFAC) delegation head Huang Ling said the trade value between Malaysia and Xiamen reached 2.7 billion US dollar per year and China has set Malaysia first among nine other countries as development partners of the Maritime Silk Road.
Huang Ling made the above statement at a meeting between XPFAC delegation and Penang Chinese Assembly Hall (PCAH) on Wednesday.
She said the purpose of the visit is to strengthen connection with overseas Chinese.
She mentioned that the Maritime Silk Road will focus on cooperation in six major sectors which include basic infrastructure, trade and finance cooperation, reciprocal investment, maritime cooperation, tourism and events, cultural and creative sectors.
She said Penang’s openness to international trade is a great learning example for Xiamen. She complimented the development of Bayan Lepas industrial zone.
PCAH chairman Datuk Khor Teng How said in his speech that Penangites are connected with Fujian Province by kinship, Penang and Xiamen have established the sister city relationship much earlier, the sister cities will celebrate its 22nd anniversary this year.
Cooperate in creating business opportunities
He said as the leading organization in the Chinese community of Penang, PCAH no longer plays the role of resolving dispute within the community. As the society advances, PCAH has set it vision high. With the trust of the Chinese community, PCAH has continuously contributed to the Chinese community in the past decades.
Apart from that, he hoped the meeting will improve the relationship and friendship between Penang and Xiamen, enable businesses from both cities to have the chance to cooperate in creating more business opportunities and achieving a win-win situation.
Penang Hokkien Association (PHA) chairman Loh Nam Hooi and Penang Tong Aun Kim Har Association (PTAKHA) advisor Dato’ Yeoh Cheng Hooi also delivered speech at the meeting.
Members of the delegation include Hong Kong Chi Yu Bank vice general manager Fu Jian, China Overseas Friendship Association vice chairmen Wang De Xian, Wang Qin, executive committee members Ji Zhi Bin, Li Zong Ge, Chiyu Bank mainland operation director Cai Shao Xiong, Chiyu Bank personal banking deputy director Zhang Yu Wen, PHA chief coordinator Neoh Chong Poh, PTAKHA chairman Lee Eng Tee, PCAH vice chairman Dato’ Yeoh Chip Tong, Dato’ Alex Tan, Teh Eng Hin and others.
