Batu Pahat, June 8 – Deputy Finance Minister Ahmad Maslan urged other races to emulate the Chinese who were skillful in doing business, diligent and emphasized on education, all these had made them to be more success than other races.

He said Chinese is the most worthy of applauding and emulating community and therefore, he has always called on Malays to learn from Chinese their business skill and diligence, besides they were also capable of forming guilds and associations, especially their emphasis on education has contributed to their success.

He said Malaysia is a multi-racial country, different races complementary each other, not a single race can be omitted. Malaysians of different ethnicity should learn from each other, they should co-operate among themselves in various fields be it on doing business or in life in order to attain the national unity to enable the country to develop harmoniously.

He made the statement during the 20th anniversary celebration of Batu Pahat Jin Feng Shan Temple Dragon and Lion Dance Troupe last night. Also present was former MCA president Tan Sri Chua Soi Lek.

Ahmad Maslan said the Goods and Services Tax (GST) with effect from April had increased the tax revenue of the country, GST being the propeller of the country’s economic development, will make sure that the country have enough financial capability to bring more benefits to the people.

He also announced the allocation of RM50,000 for Jin Feng Shan Temple to be used for promoting cultural activities.

Hudud affects economy

Meanwhile, Chua Soi Lek said even though Kelantan has passed the hudud law, he was confident that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib would stop the private member’s’ bill from being passed in Dewan Rakyat.

He said the Prime Minister also understood that majority of the Muslims were against the implementation of hudud law. Most importantly, it was a bill that put back the clock, once implemented would never turn back and would have negative impact on the country’s future development.

“Once hudud law is enforced, foreign investors will stop coming and stock market will fall sharply, unemployment rate will also go up, all these will affect the country’s economy and the objective of Vision 2020 to become a developed nation will be hampered,” he added.

He said among the 50 odd Islamic countries throughout the world, only 11 have implemented the hudud law and they were all in poverty and had failed, and had been marginalized, because the hudud law implemented by them was violating the human rights.

“There are about 40% non-Muslims in the country, as long as non-Muslims stand united in opposing the hudud law, I believe that the Prime Minister will not allow the hudud law to be passed in the Federal,” he said.

Chua Soi Lek and Umno Batu Pahat chief Puad had also donated RM5,000 respectively to the temple.
