JOHOR BARU, Jun 4 – A promotional message spread by Christian religious group was claimed to be offensive to the supreme Islamic leader of Johor state Sultan Ibrahim. A group of NGO members gathered outside the closed-door event of the Christian group, held placards that urge the religious group to stop creating trouble in Johor and offending the Sultan.

The Christian group held a closed-door event in a hotel meeting room in Johor Baru, about 2,255 people attended the event. The participants were primary and secondary school students, with mostly secondary school students.

About 15 members of NGO held banners and placards outside of the hotel to express their frustration on the religious group and demand for public apology.

The Christian group was alleged to be responsible for a preaching material uploaded to the internet, including remark stating their vision to build the largest Christian religious base in Johor.

Do not interrupt racial harmony

The NGO involved in the protest believed that the message has offended Johor Sultan’s status as the highest leader of the Islamic faith in Johor state.

Royal Johor Military Force Veteran Association (RJMFVA) president Abdul Razak said the peaceful protest was held because they do not want these people to make offensive comment against Johor Sultan and interfere with the racial harmony.

The peaceful protest lasted about five minutes, no aggressive acts were reported. It is learned that it is the second time the Christian group held similar event. The two-day event will be ended tomorrow afternoon.
