China’s construction industry on the rise, ACCCIM urges local players to model China

KUALA LUMPUR, Jun 8 – Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM) president Tan Sri Lim Sing said the rising and dynamic of China’s construction sector and the continuous innovation of China’s building material industry can be the role model of local building industry.
He said since China’s reform and opening, he noticed the great improvements of China’s construction sector each time when he visits China. China is undergoing small and large scale construction projects in almost every cities.
“At the same time, after learning and improving themselves from their local experience, China’s construction industry players have taken the step to enter overseas market and established renowned world class brands. This is a great example for industry players in Malaysia,” he said.
“In places around the world, the participation and exposure of China’s construction sector have become more and more prominent, which promotes the improvement of building materials, continuous innovation on building standards. It is a natural development.”
Lim Sing made the statement above at the reception of the China Building Materials Federation (CBMF) delegation today. He said the exchange will allow industry players from both countries to make the first connection, with the hope that the connection will lead to future cooperation. “However, there will be more opportunities in the future even if the first meeting and business deal do not work out.”
ACCCIM Construction, Property and Infrastructure Committee advisor Dato’ Tan Seng Leong said based on the current situation, it is clear that many developers from China have set foot in Malaysia.
Real estate sector in adjusting period
“In the past five years, the real estate market has been developing robustly. Statistic shows that the population of Iskandar Johor has increased from 1.38 million in 2007 to 1.9 million, excluding 400,000 floating population. The number is expected to reach 3 million in 2025,” he said.
“The real estate sector is undergoing a period of adjustment. Malaysia is entering the GST era, perhaps this is just an adjustment. Malaysia has a mature financial system, which includes loans for housing and land.”
He said Malaysia has the world’s 12th largest port and geographical advantages which will be conducive for the trade development of both countries, this will particularly benefit the construction sector. Apart from the construction sector, China’s corporations have also started to enter the Malaysian market in other sectors.
At the same time, CBMF secretary-general Sun Xiangyuan said he hoped the visit to ACCCIM will improve mutual understanding in construction sectors between both countries, strengthen mutual relationship and explore business opportunities.
Also present at the reception were ACCCIM vice secretary Tan Sri Teo Chiang Kok , CBMF international cooperation director Ding Lizhong and China National Building Material Exhibition & Trade Center vice director Qu Jiaosheng.
