Yap Sin Tian: Hong Waon Ying sacked, to engage new CEO
Nanyang Siang Pau, April 29, 2015
Kajang, April 28 – The Dong Zong (United Chinese School Committees Association) central committee meeting chaired by its president Yap Sin Tian today resolved to sack its chief executive officer Hong Waon Ying.
Dong Zong will also set up a selection panel led by its deputy president Chow Siew Hon to engage a new CEO.
Yap Sin Tian said during the meeting of the standing committee last week, it was decided that the CEO post held by Hong Waon Ying be suspended because she had transferred the staff without prior approval of the standing committee and also had issued statement attacking the present Dong Zong leadership. She was asked to hand in explanation letter today.
Defying suspension order
“Hong Waon Ying did not heed the instruction and continue to work and issued press statements.
“I wrote another letter to her last week asking her to attend today’s central committee meeting and to explain why she did not bother about the suspension letter. She did write a letter but did not explain the three issues we mentioned about.
“Based on this the central committee meeting today unanimously agreed that Hong Waon Ying be dismissed. The meeting also resolved to authorize the president to send the letter of termination to Hong Waon Ying,” he said.
He said he would hand over the letter to Hong Waon Ying later.
He told the media this after chairing the central committee meeting today.
Yap Sin Tian said Dong Zong would also publish the notice of dismissal in all the Chinese newspapers to inform the public.
“We hope Miss Hong will not resort to confrontational approach again as she is doing disservice to the Chinese education,” he added.
On what action would Dong Zong take if Hong Waon Ying still report for duty tomorrow? Yap Sin Tian replied that Hong’s employment was under certain conditions, she might not border about it but eventually she will still have to be bound by the law.
