Gan Ping Sieu and Liew Chin Tong to debate on Hudud on 5 October

Is Hudud Law a fake topic? MCA and DAP are to have a showdown in a debate at Sin Chew Daily headquarters at 3pm on 5 October.

Pressing issues affecting people or implementation of hudud, which one should be given priority? Hudud is a topic that one can’t ignore. Practicing lawyer Guo Zhi Ying is of the view that since Malaysia has Penal Code, once Hudud Law is implemented there will be more conflicts. When Hudud Law and Penal Code are in conflict, how is it trialed?

Vice president of Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia (Hua Zong) Liu Zhi Wen and president of Kuala Lumpur Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall Tan Yew Sing are having similar views.
Liu feels that hudud law is more important. Although the impact level of hudud law is not direct but it involves an extensive scope including religion, racial, individual freedom and contact between people. It may be a catalyst to move religion to an extremist path.

Tan feels both should be given attention. He is of the view that issues affecting livelihood of people are important. The topic on hudud law should not be neglected. People’s problems affect the public in their daily lives while hudud law would involve the changes and future of politics in Malaysia.

MCA’s Syariah Law and Policy Implementation Special Task Force chairman Gan Ping Sieu and DAP political education bureau head Liew Chin Tong have given their views earlier.

Liew is of the view that Malaysia should place emphasis on creating politics which are able to solve people’s problem in a practical manner and not to be dwindling on “politics of signages” but Gan opines that implementation of hudud law will relate to change of system in the country as it will be theocratic state. Issues affecting people are to be handled daily involving people and the government.
