The giant pandas are arriving. Are you happy? Maybe yes because the animal is cute and adorable. Although many people have seen giant pandas during their visits to China, but when you are on tour, you just hurry around.

Now that the giant pandas are coming to Zoo Negara, right at our doorstep. And so we can admire them to our full satisfaction. If Zoo Negara’s management is technology savvy, it may put the panda’s 24-hour life on the Net to thrill their fans.

It was projected that the arrival of giant pandas will give rise to many business opportunities. Business sponsors can buy the rights of using the panda image for their products to create a new wave of consumer fad.

The panda complex has been designed with a green and serene environment and suitably air-conditioned for pandas. It cost millions of ringgit and done in the hope that the pandas will settle down and be happy, even to raise a family.

To the pandas, this will be very attractive and most welcome. But when you think about the hefty sum of money spent on the pandas, we don’t feel good. We are paying tax money to keep the pandas. But who will be sympathetic to us, who will understand our grouses?

Prime Minister Najib announced the “panda policy” before the May 5 general election to lobby for votes. It was not an effective tactic. Firstly, many people have seen pandas in China. Secondly, the Government has not spent money in the right place. Thirdly, they have no confidence in the management. Many animals have died in the zoo. How do we explain to the international community if something goes wrong with the pandas? With the missing MH370, we are under the focus of international community. Even the abduction cases, we are being watched closely. The pandas must stay alive, otherwise we will be slammed. The management must be extraordinary careful. Otherwise, we may have another unresolved case. The panda is more precious than a suspect in a lockup, or a MACC witness!

While inside the panda complex it looks more like a paradise, the environment outside is chaotic. First, we have honourable representatives in Terengganu doing the “Hawaiian dance” – leaving the party in a huff and returning after some sweet talk. It is like playing children’s games and they think they are smart. Our national leaders cannot even spare the time to deal with people’s issues as they need time to deal with the grouses of these officials. It is so good to become officials. Even if you are sacked, just throw a tantrum and the leaders will come to pacify you. They don’t want you to be hurt.

When people cry out their appeals, the leaders don’t even look at them. They are even warned not to instigate and destroy the peace and order of the nation.

PAS has quiet down. Maybe due to pressure or that it has achieved its objective of threatening UMNO. But the problem has not ended. If DAP and MCA stop their campaigns, they are tricked. As of now, PAS has halted their campaign. Will it start again?

When PAS has more people in power, they will change. That’s why it is better to become officials. When you hold the power and resources in hand, who cares about public opinion?

Public opinion can be manipulated. It is “something” during election but “nothing” after election. The voters may be just “something”. Voters are the boss? You are fooling yourself!

Anyway, the pandas will be happily settled down in Malaysia. They do not need to pay GST, face inflationary pressure, victimized by snatch-thieves, and not having the hudud law applied to them. Their happiness index will sure be super high!
